31/05 Behind the wheel for Maasvlakte 2 and last grade of Primary School
Friday May 28 VVD member Ineke Dezentjé Hamming-Bluemink officially kicked-off the project, enabling the last grades of primary school to visit Maasvlakte 2 for free.
The construction of Maasvlakte 2 is a unique event, where as from 2013 thousands of people will be working and spending their leisure time. The youth of Rotterdam needs to be aware and proud of this special project.
With this in mind a couple of Rotterdam organizations joined hands, being Management Partnership International, Royal Burger Group, The Port of Rotterdam and DeltaLinqs. They sponsor for 100% these school visits to Maasvlakte 2.
On May 28 school boys and girls of two schools in Schiedam were given a special tour on this new part of the Netherlands.
The initiative was highly appreciated by Ineke Dezentjé Hamming-Bluemink, in such away that she found some time in the busy days before the elections to give the official starting shot, by loudly honking the bus' horn. "The youth is our future. Whether you will be working at the port police, on a crane, or as a logistics manager, Maasvlakte 2 is vital and indispensable."
These free visits unite with the activities of the Education Information Centre, the project "Cool Port", a working week Port for the last year of primary school and a variety of school selection projects. After all, Maasvlakte 2 will also be needing young and enthusiastic employees in the future.
The kick-off of the project is a pilot for six schools in the area of Rotterdam. If it turns out to be successful and if more sponsors can be engaged, all school going children in Rotterdam will be offered a free visit to Maasvlakte 2.
Ineke Dezentjé Hamming-Bluemink has been VVD spokesperson education, youth care and youth crime since 2006, and since 2003 she has been member of the Dutch House of Commons.
